Power-to-X

As we all know from high school chemistry, water is made up of oxygen and hydrogen, and the two elements can be separated from one another with electricity. Provided that we extract the hydrogen with electricity from renewable energy, we would acquire fuel from a non-fossil source!

Power-to-X or shortly PtX is an umbrella term for technologies that use electricity to extract hydrogen, and that hydrogen can be used in areas ranging from industry to transportation and help the world in decreasing its CO2 emissions tremendously.

PtX strategy of Denmark is determined through the cooperation of Danish Energy Agency and PtX industry, where the sides came up with several objectives. Development in PtX must align with Danish Climate Act, the necessary regulations and infrastructure must be present in Denmark to be able to accommodate this new technology and reap maximum benefits. PtX must be integrated within the Danish energy system, and Denmark must become a strong player in the market to become an exporter of cutting-edge PtX products.

The hydrogen car concept in ecological transportation concept

The government has calculated that if transportation was to be conducted by renewable energy, that would help Denmark reduce approximately 9 million tonnes of CO2, and a transition to PtX is considered to be essential in achieving that target. At the time the report was written, there were already projects to reach 7GW of electrolysis production by 2030, already achieving the EU target of 4-6 GW for 2020-2024.
